Eduardo Mendonça received the 2009 "Spirit of Liberty Award".

On Saturday, July 4^th, the Ethnic Heritage Council honored the naturalized citizen Eduardo Mendonça who has made outstanding contribution to his adopted country, the U.S.A., while maintaining his ethnic heritage.  Congressman Jim McDermott presented the 2009 “Spirit of Liberty Award” to Mendonça of the Brazilian community. Eduardo Mendonça is the first Brazilian and South American representative to receive this award.

The 2009 “Spirit of Liberty Award” occurred during the 25^th Annual Naturalization Ceremony at Seattle Center, from 12 noon to 1 pm, with a concert of festive selections began at 11 am by William Blayney and the Greenwood Concert Band. 

The ceremony included speeches by Senator Maria Cantwell, U.S. Representative Jim McDermott and Washington State Secretary of State Sam Reed, and with Seattle City Mayor Gregory J. Nickels as Master of Ceremonies.

The Washington Army National Guard Color Guard presented the colors. During the ceremony, Native American Performer & Storyteller Gene Tagaban presented a sacred story along with Swil Kanim and Peter Ali and the The Sound of the Northwest gospel choir, with director Juan Huey-Ray, performed.

Working for President Obama

Eduardo, with MusicianFellows Carla Moreno (Seattle), and Jeff Harms (Chicago).

President Obama has called for a national MusicianCorps to bring artists as public servants into low-income and underserved communities and schools. On April 21, 2009, the Serve America Act was signed. Music National Service (MNS) is a new national enterprise dedicated to supporting and expanding the use of music to achieve important civic and social goals.

   Eduardo Mendonça is one of the four Seattle musicians that are representing Washington State on this federal pilot program administrated locally by Arts Corps. Mendonça's  placement is at Seattle Center where he is a music ambassador of sorts, engaging youth from nearby Parks and Recreation sites to participate in community music festivals and utilize resources of the Seattle Center and Seattle Parks and Recreation campuses.

Eduardo Mendonça recebeu o prêmio 2009 "Spirit of Liberty Award".

No Sábado, dia 4 de Julho, o Ethnic Heritage Council honrou o cidadão naturalizado Eduardo Mendonça por significante contribuição ao seu País, os Estados Unidos da América, enquanto manteve suas raízes étnico-culturais brasileiras. O congressista Jim McDermott entregou o título 2009 “Spirit of Liberty Award” (Espírito de Liberdade) a Eduardo. Eduardo  Mendonça é o primeiro Brasileiro e representante da América do Sul a receber este prêmio.

O 2009 “Spirit of Liberty Award” ocorreu durante a 25^th Annual Naturalization Ceremony no Seattle Center, das 12 às 13 hs. Com concertos festivos que iniciaram às 11hs da manhã por William Blayney e a Greenwood Concert Band. 

A cerimônia incluiu discursos da Senadora Maria Cantwell,  Deputado Federal Jim McDermott e do Secretário de Estado Sam Reed, tendo o Prefeito da Cidade de Seattle Gregory J. Nickels como Mestre de Cerimônias.

A  Guarda Nacional do Estado de Washington esteve presente. Durante a cerimônia, o índio Gene Tagaban apresentou uma história native sagrada junto com Swil Kanim, e Peter Ali e o The Sound of the Northwest Gospel Choir, dirigido por Juan Huey-Ray, também se apresentou.

Trabalhando Para o Presidente Obama

President Obama criou o MusicianCorps, um programa nacional para levar artistas para servir comunidades de baixa-renda e escolas. O "Serve America Act" foi assinado pelo Presidente no dia 21 de Abril de 2009. Music National Service (MNS) é o mais novo departamento nacional dedicado a apoiar e expandir o uso da música para atingir objetivos cívicos e sociais.

   Eduardo Mendonça é um dos quatro músicos de Seattle que estão representando o Estado de Washington neste plano piloto federal que é localmente administrado pelo Arts Corps, uma das mais respeitadas agência de artes de Seattle. Mendonça ocupa sua posição no  Seattle Center, onde atua como uma espécie de "embaixador musical" responsável pelo engajamento de adolescentes junto ao Departamento de Parques e Recreações proporcionando maior participação da comunidade em festivais musicais, como também utilizar recursos dos campus do Seattle Center, e do Departamento de Parques e Recreações
