“Milton Nascimento is probably the greatest Brazilian
composer since Jobim/Gilberto.”-Paul Simon
After dedicating himself to the tour for his album
Novas Bossas, which celebrated the 50th anniversary of the
Bossa Nova with the Jobim Trio, and the release of an album recorded in
Paris with the Belmondo Brothers and the Ille de France National Orchestra,
Milton Nascimento returns to the stage in a solo show, presenting new songs
and his greatest hits. “I like to sing and I don’t care if I’m the composer
or not, when I sing a song, I feel like the song is my own.” says Milton,
who has one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary music. As Elis
Regina use to say, “If God sang, it would be with Milton’s voice.”
Beyond old hits, Milton also includes more-recent
compositions composed with friends both old and new and performs the works
of other composers, putting his own special touch on the repertoire with
every presentation. “I have traveled a lot, met a lot of good people, and
seen many incredible things, and I was to sing about them.” Because of this,
every new day is a surprise because Milton
Nascimento allows himself to surprise the public. As such, he never
disappoints.
More than fifty years ago, he began his career with the
Luar de Prata group while still just a child among the hills and echoes of
Minas Gerais. He has completed thirty-seven albums, not taking into account
his countless participation on the albums of other artists, anthologies of
sound tracks for movies, theater pieces, and ballets. He has be honored with
hundreds of prizes and awards, like the Tenco, Europe’s highest prize for
music, delivered to Milton at the San Remo Festival in Italy in 2008 as well
as Grammies and so many others.
It is mainly, the enthusiasm to take the stage like
someone taking it for the first time. The desire to raise his voice on the
road, to be in contact with public, and to bring his music to the four
corners of the world and the dances of life. “I feel like an 18-year-old
kid, and I was to keep on experiencing this magic for another 200 years.”
